چکیده

During chemotherapy in patients with gastrointestinal malignancy, the hepatic lesions may occur as chemotherapy-induced lesions or tumor-associated lesions, with exceptions for infectious conditions and other incidentalomas. Focal hepatic lesions arising from chemotherapy-induced hepatopathies (such as chemotherapy-induced sinusoidal injury and steatosis) and tumor-associated eosinophilic abscess should be considered a mimicker of metastasis in patients with gastrointestinal malignancy. Accumulating evidence suggests that chemotherapy for gastrointestinal malignancy in the liver has roles in both the therapeutic effects for hepatic metastasis and injury to the non-tumor bearing hepatic parenchyma. In this article, we reviewed the updated concept of chemotherapy-induced hepatopathies and tumor-associated eosinophilic abscess in the liver, focusing on the pathological and radiological findings. Awareness of the causative chemo-agent, pathophysiology, and characteristic imaging findings of these mimickers is critical for accurate diagnosis and avoidance of unnecessary exposure of the patient to invasive tissue-based diagnosis and operations.

Modern Prospection for Hepatic Arterial Infusion Chemotherapy in Malignancies with Liver Metastases

Malignancy with liver metastasis plays an important role in daily oncology practice, especially for primary cancers of the gastrointestinal tract and hepatopancreatobiliary system. On account of the dual vascular supply system and the fact that most metastatic liver tumors are supplied by the hepatic artery, hepatic artery infusion chemotherapy (HAIC) is an appealing method for the treatment of...

Studying the specificity of bone SPECT for differentiating malignant from benign lesions in the vertebral column of the patients with a known primary malignancy [Persian]

Metastatic survey of the patients with known primary malignancies with bone scan is one of the most common studies in nuclear medicine. Unfortunately the conventional planar bone scan has a very low specificity for differentiating benign from malignant lesions especially in the spinal column. In this study, we compared the specificity of SPECT imaging and convention...

Hepatic lesions

The liver presents with a variety of lesions for evaluation and appropriate triage with imaging. Ultrasound, MDCT and particularly MRI play a significant role in this objective. In patients without a known malignancy the vast majority of non-cystic lesions are benign (hemangioma, FNH, adenoma, focal fat, etc.), while a few are malignant. However, common benign hepatic lesions may pose a dilemma...

Submucosal lipoma of the large intestine masquerading as a colonic malignancy

Lipomas of the alimentary tract are rare tumours that can mimic malignant lesions. They are often small and asymptomatic although larger tumours can present with intusussception or as abdominal masses. We present a case of a transverse colon submucosal lipoma masquerading as a colonic adenocarcinoma leading to resection. A 74 year-old-man was referred urgently for assessment with altered bowel ...

Inflammatory myofibroblastic pseudotumour of the liver in association with gall stones - a rare case report and brief review

Inflammatory myofibroblastic pseudotumours of the liver are rare tumour-like lesions that can mimic malignant liver neoplasms. The symptoms and radiological findings of this rare tumour can pose diagnostic difficulties. We describe a 69-year-old gentleman who was admitted to our department with symptoms suggestive of acute cholecystitis. Ultrasonography and computed tomography of the liver rais...
